Green Is In - Join the action scene in Poquott.

From wearing o’ the Green, to eating greens, green technology, and the greenhouse—Spring of 2010 has never been
greener, especially after a long hard winter. Join the action scene in Poquott.
What you can do:
- Join the Poquott Environmental Action Committee (PEAC). It meets the 3rd Wed. of each month at 5:15 at Village Hall.
- Come visit the Poquott Greenhouse, a "cold house" that Poquott resident and member of PEAC Ron Murillo is repairing. The Three Village Community Trust has leased it to start native plants bought through a grant for restoring the Stephen D. Matthews Nature Preserve. However, Poquott residents are invited to share the space to do their own early plantings and help monitor the seedlings and saplings.
- If we have more snow (April is the cruelest month) use sand, not salt or chemicals,on your driveways, so it won't pollute the harbors or kill your vegetation.
- Clean up after your dog, and remind other residents to do so. Violation of the pooper-scooper law makes you a negligent owner. Join the Dog Park Committee to learnhow you can help eradicate this problem.
- Any water discharge—from swimming pools, spas, car washing, washing machines, power washing—must be discharged to a dry well or other means of keeping it containedon your property.
- Adopt the drain closest to your house and keep it free of debris, especially when a storm is predicted.
- Bag your yard debris. If you blow it onto the roadside it ends up on the road and blocks drains or creates slickroad conditions when wet. It is illegal to blow it onto another owner's property, and large piles don't compost; theysuffocate and spread invasive weeds and plants8. Use only organic fertilizers and lawn treatments to prevent toxic runoff into the harbors. If you have a landscaper, educate him also.
