MINUTES OF THE MARCH 10,2005 MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF PQUOTT HELD AT VILLAGE HALL AT 7:00 P.M.

Present Mayor Barbara Donovan, Trustees Carol Castillo, Sandra Nicoletti, Christine Vitkun, Village Attorney Peter Sverd and 4 residents.

The Clerk read the resignation letter of Trustee Stephen Matthews effective the 21 st of February 2005.

The Mayor requested that the Board approve two appointments, Carol Lane as Trustee to complete the term of S. Matthews and Henry Ryon as Planning Board Member to complete the term of C. Lane. A motion to approve was made by C. Castillo, seconded by C. Vitkun, Aye – C. Castillo, S. Nicoletti, C. Vitkun.

The Mayor stated that an alternate Planning Board member was needed to fill out the complement of the Planning Board and that she will interview several candidates.

 

BUDGET

The Treasurer reviewed the 9 months income and expenses. After discussion the board determined that changes should be made to the proposed budget before the hearing date.

  1. A7110.4 decrease $5000.00 to $10,000.00
  2. A3310.2 set at $1500.00
  3. A3310.4 set at $1500.00

 

OTHER BUSINESS

  1. The Clerk requested that the Board approve the contract with Big Yank Cleaning Service for cleaning Village Hall. After discussion a motion to accept the amended contract was made by C. Vitkun, seconded by S. Nicoletti- Aye C. Castillo, S. Nicoletti, C. Vitkun, B. Donovan.
  2. The Village of Port Jefferson will lend us their “Smart Sign” after it has been repaired.
  3. Engineers contract for $69,000.00 for Multi Modal Project discussed. Village Attorney will review and report back to the Mayor.
  4. Traffic Calming Device— C. Lane stated that a traffic calming device ie; an 8 foot wide hump in the street across the entire roadway was being utilized by some municipalities instead of “speed bumps”.
  5. Mayor Donovan stated that she had gotten a phone call from a resident concerning traffic safety. It appears that when a pedestrian is walking on a street cars pull wide to avoid the pedestrian and pose a threat to oncoming cars.

 

PERMITS

The clerk informed the board that two permits were recently reviewed and one was denied for front yard setback. The applicant will ask for a variance.

 

CORRESPONDENCE

  1. ICC Seminar—refer to Building Inspector.
  2. ICC Code—give to Building Inspector.
  3. Suffolk County Planning Dept.
  4. Earth Day—request for volunteers.
  5. SCOVA—Executive dinner March 29 th.

 

PUBLIC COMMENTS

  1. Resident- The Port Jefferson Harbor Complex Committee open meeting is scheduled for March 16 7 P.M. at Belle Terre
  2. Resident—A recent newspaper article stated that there are several restricted shell fishing areas, however no one knows where they are.
  3. Resident—why doesn’t the budget have a separate listing for beach guards? Answer—Workmans Comp. charges twice the rate for beach guards as they do for Code Enforcement. Therefore the beach guards are classified under Code Enforcement to decrease the premium.
