MINUTES OF THE SEPTEMBER 14, 2006 MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF POQUOTT HELD AT 7:00 P.M. AT VILLAGE HALL

Present Mayor Barbara Donovan, Trustees Carol Castillo, Carol Lane, Sandra Nicoletti, Christine Vitkun; also present Village Attorney Peter Sverd and 5 residents.

 

The Mayor requested approval of the appointment of Michael Sterlacci to the Zoning Board of Appeals to replace Henry Brown. The appointment was approved on a motion by C. Lane, seconded by C. Vitkun Aye- C. Castillo, C. Lane, S. Nicoletti, C. Vitkun. Nay 0.

 

NEW BUSINESS

  • The “No” sign on Van Brunt Manor and Shore is missing the letter d in Incorporated. The supports also need to be repaired.
  • The erosion problem at the top of Washington Street needs to be addressed with either road work or drains or both.
  • The Village had a rash of robberies involving several unlocked vehicles in resident driveways. SCPD has investigated and Public Safety has reports on all incidents. Discussion followed re: Public Safety schedules and coverage.

 

OLD BUSINESS

  • Washington Street survey—still awaiting final from surveyors.
  • Road Striping/ stop lines—being coordinated with the Town of Brookhaven.
  • Drains—need to coordinate the times that the drains will be cleaned to eliminate resident problems with road closures.
  • North Shore Heritage—speaker had to cancel due to family issues. He will be rescheduled.
  • Village Hall renovations—new plans are in the works for a modified renovation.

 

PERMITS

The Clerk informed the Board of several permits received. 1) Purrone—denied for zoning violation, 2) Esposito—denied for zoning violations. Both will go to the ZBA in October for variance hearings.

 

CORRESPONDENCE

  • DEC Keyspan permit notification.

 

PUBLIC COMMENTS

  • Resident—the people that rifled the vehicles did not cut through any yards to escape, therefore they must have had a vehicle. On Labor Day he observed over a dozen kids loitering at the intersection of Silver Beech and Indian Valley.
  • Resident—the Board should schedule more night hours for a short period.
  • Resident—garbage cans are being left in the roadway blocking mail boxes and driveways.
  • Resident—do the neighborly thing and take in your neighbors garbage cans. The beach at Van Brunt Manor Road needs a “no dogs on beach” sign, also the “no swimming” sign should be closer to the road.
  • Resident—the gate at the tennis court side of Trustees Park appears to be locked in the A.M.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 8:40 P.M. on a motion by C. Vitkun.
